immigration is complicated and takes a toll on your mental health.
living in uncertainty to a level where you don’t know your home beyond 60 day period is no less than being a hero in your life everyday.
you wake up, you fight at work to ensure you can keep your job, you sleep, you repeat.
even when you are going to perform at your optimum pace, there are plenty of things at work, that might steer the results not in your favor, not at fault of your own.
there are chances you might fall in a trap where you did everything right, kept doing the best work but still ended up losing your job and on a 60 day period on h1b.
the indian born who are in 100+ years of wait for green card are likely to fall in this trap one day or the other as they continue staying in usa.
and in this process as the indian born would be staying and working in usa, their relationship with family in India would deteriorate over a period of time.
this makes moving back to india extremely challenging while living with no clarity of stay in usa on the other side.
so now what’s the strategy?
based on personal experiences, i think it’s important to continue finding a better path for yourself.
like there is no way you can stay as a normal employee and allow the life to pass.
the moment you would allow the life to pass, the moment your chances of falling would increase.
so it’s important to take control in life in various ways.
here’s a good strategy plan that can work:
step 1: build a personal brand
in this internet era, personal brand is one of the highest leverage activity. your personal brand on the internet would go along with you to the country you would move. so invest your time and energy into becoming a subject matter expert. making friends online
this is what a personal brand offers:
better job prospects in usa
better job prospects if need to move back
better profile for o1 visa
better profile for eb1a visa
step 2: find an immigration consultant/lawyer who can work with you over a period of time to get you ready for o1/eb1a
building personal brand is anyways a great idea. but having a personal immigration consultant/lawyer on your side is another great investment. you don’t know when you would need them so it would be good to have a backup plan in case needed
step 3: get out of this mess via eb1a/eb5
if you have enough money, it’s good to use that to get your eb5. if not, continue moving out of this mess via eb1a.
step 4: keep o1 to your rescue
have a great profile with a petition ready for filing for your o1.
step 5: get your b1/b2
in case you don’t have b1/b2, it’s good to have that visa so that you can still travel around in case of issues
step 6: have PR in canada
having PR or work permit in Canada keep you in a comfortable place in case you lose your job
step 7: build your relationships across the world
build relationships across the world and give as much value as you can to other people so that in case you have to deal with challenges, they are there to support you in other countries.
immigration is a complete mess. hope these strategies can help you stay ahead.
